Music Review: Ahista Ahista

Published by Jem under HR Music Reviews

Ahista Ahista
Himesh Reshammiya’s music is the flavour of the season. In “Ahista Ahista”, he has done a good job as a composer, but disappoints as a singer because his voice lacks freshness.

Soft guitar strumming and slow violin makes the title track “Ahista Ahista” somewhat pleasing to the ears, but sadly Reshammiya sings the song at a high pitch, which reminds the listener of his tracks in “Humko Deewana Kar Gaye”.

Irshad Kamil’s lyrics are impressive and Himesh could have worked better on them, instead of repeating the rehearsed mukhda of his popular title track in “Humko Deewana Kar Gaye”.

However, “Ahista Ahista” (Unplugged) comes as a respite and Reshammiya sings this number sans the usual background musical instruments.

T.Series, Himesh Reshammiya and DJ Akbar Sami (Ahista Ahista)

And it doesn’t require much persuasion to pick up the music album from the stands. At least when it comes to giving a first listening!

So what if Irhsad Kamil comes in place of regular Sameer as the lyricist, an exciting outing is still expected from the soundtrack of Ahista Ahista. A film that finally brings Abhay Deol back on big screen after a hiatus since an interesting debut in ‘Socha Na Tha’, it stars Soha Ali Khan as the female lead with Shayan Munshi being the important part of the starcast. A film by Anjum Rizvi, it is special for Shivam Nair who makes his directorial debut. With good expectations of hearing an interesting soundtrack, one plays on ‘Ahista Ahista’ that has 8 unique songs with remaining 7 being remixes/unplugged versions.

And isn’t the end result simply amazing?

Great news for Himesh Reshammiya fans as he comes behind the mike for 5 out of 8 unique tracks in the album with 3 of them being solo renditions. The first to come is the title ‘Ahista Ahista’ that starts off on an extremely pleasant note and moves to high pitch only to become a cool love number with elements of Paki-pop to it. If you have loved songs from ‘Strings’ and ‘Jal’, you would love the title song even more as it pure to the core with great orchestra in the background enhanced by a good use of guitar that comes at just the right places. Now this is a track that should be a good bonfire favorite for the sheer rhythm, twists and purity. A brilliant composition!

Music Review: Tom,Dick & Harry

Published by sunny under HR Music Reviews

The tagline for ‘Tom Dick and Harry’ says – ‘You Can’t Ignore Them’. True, but can you ignore the composer of the album? The man who goes by the name of Himesh Reshammiya? The man is just about everywhere – on every billboard, every music channel and every album cover. Close on the heels of ‘Banaras – A Mystic Love Story’ comes yet another musical score from the young composer-singer Himesh and doesn’t it come at just the right time when the curiosity about the music has just reached it’s peak? Starring Dino Morea, Jimmy Shergill and Anuj Sawhney in the lead roles along with beautiful bods Celina Jaitley and Kim Sharma and menacing Gulshan Grover, Tom Dick and Harry seems to be much more refined product from Oracle Entertainment, the makers of sleazy ‘Fun – Can Be Dangerous Sometimes’. Deepak Tijori would certainly be mighty excited about his best publicized product so far after the triple debacle of ‘Oops’, ‘Khamosh’ and ‘Fareb’.

It’s ‘Jhoom Jhoom’ all over the country and you have to credit Himesh Reshammiya, Sameer and music company T-Series for that. From day one of the song’s premier on the small screen, they have gone full throttle with the song’s publicity and there is not a single day since last fortnight when a viewer hasn’t got a chance to see the ‘men in black’ dance to this groovy tune that has an amazing quality to make you glued to the screen. It won’t be wrong to say that the song has it in it to turn out to be another ‘Dhoom Machale’ [Dhoom] in just about a few more days. Akbar Sami’s remix version goes a step extra by adding on some further zing to this already foot tapping number and the results are for everyone to be seen. Now if the movie turns out to be successful then there is going to be no looking back for this wonderfully directed song by Prashant Chaddha. Himesh Reshammiya delivers yet another superhit number that should top the music charts from here, which is currently being dominated by ‘Rang De Basanti’ since the movie’s release!

Music Review: Chup Chup Ke

Published by sunny under HR Music Reviews

Aelina, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, June 01, 2006]

For all the fans of Himesh Reshammiya, there is good news. The composer/singer strikes again with ‘Chup Chup Ke’. For a miniscule population that chooses to mock/ignore/crticize/hate him, let us present at least a couple of numbers in ‘Chup Chup Ke’ that work in a big way and we are sure that you may just about have a different point of view. A film by Priyadarshan, who has been delivering multiple hits in quick succession, ‘Chup Chup Ke’ is a sweet and simple comedy starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor in the lead who are well supported by the usual suspects Suneil Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Om Puri and Shakti Kapoor, each of whom have now formed a special bond with the director.

With Reshammiya on the scene, it is but natural to have lyricist Sameer and DJ Akbar Sami combine together and that is indeed the case as the trio attempt at creating yet another riot. Also, when there are six original tracks along with 5 remixes, one would have expected an overdose of Reshammiya behind the mike. Well, his detractors may now have to find a different reason to criticize him as he appears in only one song [which is already a hit] and instead lets other singers croon the remaining tracks.

Music Review: Phir Hera Pheri

Published by sunny under HR Music Reviews

By Aelina, IndiaGlitz [Monday, May 22, 2006]

As a guest composer, Himesh Reshammiya came up with a superhit title song for Akshay Kumar in his last release ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’. It appears as if it was just a trailer as now he arrives as a full fledged composer for Akshay’s upcoming film ‘Phir Hera Pheri’. Would he, lyricist Sameer and remix maestro DJ Akbar Sami combine to come up with yet another super successful score for this Neeraj Vohra directed sequel of ‘Hera Pheri’? Let’s hear on the album to find it out!

1) Mujhko Yaad Sataye Teri (Original and remix) [Himesh Reshammiya]

The album begins on a good note with ‘Mujhko Yaad Sataye Teri’, a song that goes with the cool image of Akshay Kumar. Reshammiya gives both his composition and singing style an edge by making the number sound more urban and contemporary while changing the tone of his voice too. There is a certain squeaky feel to the entire number that goes well with the hip-hop rhythm of the song. Featuring Rimmi Sen as the center of attraction, this Reshammiya solo has Akshay gyrating to the beats in a cool dude manner. Rimmi too looks sensational by coming with a variety of pouts while bearing an uncanny resemblance to Bipasha, the other Bengali beauty in the film. As expected, DJ Akbar Sami version is further racy that never allows you to keep your feet from moving. Overall a positive beginning to the album.

2) Ae Meri Zohrajabeen (Original and remix) [Himesh Reshammiya]

One of the most awaited songs of the film; one keenly looks forward to the promotional music video of ‘Ae Meri Zohrajabeen’ that is touted to feature the entire starcast of the film. No, as the title may suggest, ‘Ae Meri Zohrajabeen’ is not the remix version of the yesteryear hit from ‘Waqt’. Instead it is a fresh new song written by Sameer that is sung in a full throated manner by Reshammiya. A rocking number that sets the tempo rolling from the very first note, it is racy, zingy and typically Reshammiya. One can comfortably call the song to be belonging to Himesh Reshammiya school of composing’n’singing and DJ Akbar Sami school of remixing! A sure shot chartbuster number that should be highly appealing to all those who have loved Reshammiya songs during last one year.

Music Review: 36 China Town

Published by sunny under HR Music Reviews

Aelina, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, April 15, 2006]

After ‘Aitraaz’ and ‘Shaadi Se Pehle’, current numero uno composer Himesh Reshammiya joins hands with ex-numero uno film maker Subhash Ghai for yet another ‘Hitchcockian’ effort by director duo Abbas Mustan - 36 CHINA TOWN! With Akshaye Khanna playing an investigating cop along with the romantic jodi of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, heat is further built on with the likes of Upen Patel, Tanushree Dutta, Isha Kopikar and Payal Rohatgi on the frame. Looking every bit a hip’n'chick popcorn flick, ‘36 China Town’ should be an ideal place to be in this summer. Akbar Sami remixes each of the 5 tracks in the album. Let’s play it on to see if Reshammiya and Sameer have managed to create magic…..yet again!

1) Aashiqui Meri (Original and remix) [Himesh Reshammiya, Sunidhi Chauhan]

It’s the sound of signature strings that makes ‘Aashiqui Meri’ a special number. The sound is heard in all the promos and has a great effect as a part of the song where it makes an appearance throughout its duration. A dance number with an extremely catchy rhythm that is working so wonderfully well for Reshammiya for around an year now, ‘Aashiqui Meri’ too is a definite chartbuster material and truly the USP of the album. Western arrangements are superb and DJ Akbar Sami completely redefines them further on when he comes up with his racy version. The mood gets charged up and the feet find themselves in quick motion as the track picks up speed to suit so well with the thriller genre of the film. This time around Reshammiya pairs up with Sunidhi Chauhan as his singing partner and ensures that he has an all around hit package number in hands!

2) 24X7 I Think Of You (Original and remix) [Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan]

Music Review: Shaadi Se Pehle

Published by sunny under HR Music Reviews

Aelina, IndiaGlitz [Monday, March 20, 2006]

Himesh Reshammiya is on a roll. And everything that he is coming with these days is more often than not turning successful. Even 2006 has been great to him so far with ‘Aksar’ and ‘Aap Ka Surroor’ being hits and now ‘Shaadi Se Pehle’ looking promising too. With the backing of Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts and a team of director Satish Kaushik, lyricist Sameer and young brigade of Akshaye Khanna, Mallika Sherawat and Ayesha Takia, things should only be on a upswing for ‘Shaadi Se Pehle’.

1) Mundeya [Sunidhi Chauhan, remix by Akbar Sami]

A rocking beginning - that’s the way to describe ‘Mundeya’. A naughty number choreographed on equally naughty Mallika Sherawat, expect ’seetis’ and ‘taalis’ all over the auditorium once the song is played. Sunidhi Chauhan teases and invites while singing this rhythmic foot tapping number that is fun filled and makes for a conventional Bollywood number, though the setting is a little inverse with this time a girl after a boy! As expected DJ Akbar Sami peps up the mood further with his remix version (which is in fact a trend for all but one song that doesn’t have an accompanying remix version)!

2) Ankhiyon Se Gal Kar Gayi [Sukhwinder Singh, Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, remix by Akbar Sami]
