Himesh Reshammiya is on a new mission: to give it his all as an actor. He seems to be a workaholic and a perfectionist.

The actor has been working hard on his look as well as his acting skills. To build his physique, he works out daily, apart from learning how to dance. And with a film like Kajrare up his sleeve… who wouldn’t? Acting in the film directed by Pooja Bhatt has changed the man.

“I have always been a boy who loved chomping on dhoklas. I haven’t conversed much in English before as well. But a lot of things are new to my life. I was just a music composer once. I turned producer, then I turned singer and now I am an actor too … life has changed and I am moving with it,” says the soft-spoken star.

The soft-spokenness has also been often mistaken for arrogance, says Himesh. “But I don’t want to go around clarifying to everyone. People who know me, understand what I am. I am still a simpleton at heart,” he says.

The actor who has now started filming with Pooja Bhatt says the film is close to his heart. “Kajrare is a very favourite subject. Pooja is directing it, Maheshji (Mahesh Bhatt) is writing it and Bhushanji (Bhushan Kumar) is producing it so it’s a great team work. The music of the film is very different, and yet it has mass appeal. The film has been conceived very beautifully by Pooja and really very well written by Bhatt saab,” he gushes. “It’s about a man who travels from country to country and how he reaches Heera Mandi (the red light area) in Lahore. So it’s a very different film,” says Himesh.

The film promises a lot and Himesh is also happy with the choice of the heroine.

“I think the vibes are fantastic. Monalaizza is a very good choice for the lead role and she has been selected by the Bhatts and Bhushanji in consultation with actor Javed Shaikh from Pakistan. I think it’s a very different film in terms of its setting. It’s Heera Mandi in modern times … it’s got action, it’s got romance, it’s got love and it’s a very intense musical,” extols Himesh, as if he is selling the film to his distributors.

“I was shown some rushes of what Monalaizza has done in Pakistan and it does seem that she is a very intense actress. I am sure this film will be a landmark movie after Sadak,” says Himesh.

Himesh is also working on another musical at the moment - the remake of Karz called Karzzz. “I’m doing Karzzz, which is an entirely different project for me. I love my work and put in all my energies into it. Karzzz again is a project where I need to live up to my reputation as a performer. Rishi Kapoorji did a great job in the original which puts a lot of pressure on me, but I am working hard, knowing well that the comparisons that happen won’t be too kind on me,” says the singer-actor.

Mahesh Bhatt also is full of praise for Himesh’s music. That Bhatts have given some fabulous music through their films and it makes Himesh beam with pride. “Its really great of Maheshji to say that about my music but I’m really excited to be working with Pooja and Maheshji and the music definitely has to live up to the standards of what I had done earlier and what Bhushanji and Bhattsaab have been doing earlier,” signs off Himesh, as he slowly makes his way back to give his next shot…
