I have heard the Tamil ones, they rock!!

My pick is Mukunda Mukunda, lovely song well-sung by Sadhna. Kadhaai Muttum Kandhaal rakes up among the best songs composed by Himesh Ji, it’s superb!

“Well, I have quite a few issues to raise and also the music review. Its long, but I had been waiting for the right time to do this…For only whatever I have raised, it would be good get every fan’s feedback and opinion on it who reads it and disagree/convince me that my thinking is wrong or whatever I said doesn’t make sense/logic and also acknowledge my viewpoint…as I don’t wish to raise this issue repeatedly and limit it only to this post/thread”

Every time a new HR music album hits the stands…despite trying to move on, I just cannot get the statement ‘I will only compose for the films that I act in’…out of my mind…the logical sense that I make out of this is that basically you are trying to avoid a situation again regarding release clash of Apne and AKS-the movie…whereby it is justified for you to believe that music of your rival movie could affect prospects of your own movie…well…fair enough…but if you really have faith on your acting abilities, this thought shouldn’t even bother you much…agreed that music can give initial good openings, but from there on it is solely the movie itself that it makes it a big hit…let me remind every fan of the clash of the three AAAs…despite HR’s competing music like Apne, Namaste London and others around, the music of AKS-the movie topped charts and left a mark and AKS-the movie was hit…Apne was also a hit because it was a good movie even though AKS music was better than Apne, and Awarapan bombed big time despite having great music…i guez that a fearless singer who can also dare to sing in tamil has become an over-defensive actor as is the case with any newcomer…you only said that when there is faith, there is no fear…I have been constantly brainstorming to find a way past this problem:

    1. I wished that you would act in 6 to 7 + films in a year (but that doesn’t look feasible). The only way though is by doing some multi star films, cameos or special appearances as well which would give new good exposure.
    2. I wished that you could have composed for 3 other biggest-banner movies in a year, only those that would not clash with your own films after working out dates with your own manager. Even I am not asking for 12 albums as I don’t also want quality and curiosity-factor to get compromised. Two or three more albums would also always keep you in news and keep the nation on the lookout, as opposed to the current quiet times with almost no buzz when your projects are under production, take example of dasavatham…things were quiet and when it released…you are talk of the town, under the spotlight and centre of attention…and I heard that your market value as musician is around 2 crores, so even if you do some extra albums you would be earning more money on top. Even I get a gut feeling that you must be itching to do what you do best, may be you are testing your patience which will finally give in
    3. Ok, forget composing for other hindi movies…but why don’t you consider cutting your own albums i.e. AKS volume series, at least 2-3 albums in an year – if the excuse is that you don’t have enough time…then my answer is that if you can compose record number of albums including tamil with decent tunes in 2006, go for world tours and start your shooting, then I cannot believe that you can’t cut 2-3 of your own albums in a year?…composing music for you is like a cakewalk…music is in your blood. If you were that pre-occupied, then you couldn’t have guest composed for darling, welcome and now tere sang! (Anyway, I clearly remember that you quoted “I will cut my own album not to disappoint my fans”)
    4. Ok, forget even about other hindi films, now that we know that HR can also deliver in the south, I just cannot comprehend why he cannot continue this trend as south films are of no threat to his own films, leave alone the curiosity factor. Just consider composing in any language other than hindi, even in plain English.

My message is loud and clear…”CONTINUE FULL THROTTLE WITH ACTING, JUST FIND A WAY TO INCREASE MUSIC B’COZ U ALSO KNOW THAT U CAN”, c’mon HR…don’t dictate…negotiate and be a spirit!…coz if HR ever considers and acts upon it…then it will be good news and a day to celebrate, jump and dance on one foot with excitement and joy.
I may dare to say this but “it is CRIMINAL of you to DELIBERATELY / KNOWINGY / INTENTIONALY deny this die hard HR fanatic such music due to whatever reasons I don’t care and shield your acting career by making music the scapegoat”. Still getting used to the long waits, a wait of 2-3 months is somehow tolerable, but above that it gets really suffocating and frustrating, so you can imagine my position. Having said this, as a fan I would have truly understood and accepted this if you had hit a low profile as a musician due to market factors beyond your control (which I pray never happens) or if you had simply run out of tunes (which is just not possible). In fact, I hope that you work with all of the industry’s biggest stars and be part of biggest movies/banners. …Basically, my verdict is that your acting fans are over-privileged and music fans are under-privileged…I know that whatever is happening is exciting and great, but is there still any fan that doesn’t miss his music?…the equation is that you used to do around 12 albums in a year but now your acting has eaten 9 of those, i.e. reduction of 75% of your music capacity…now that’s gigantic for a no.1 musician…I fully agree that quantity of music also had to decrease anyway…but a 50-50 deal would have everyone satisfied and interests of all parties catered for…the thought of “a super-quality exclusive album every 2-3 months (i.e. 5-6 albums an year) in addition to around 3 movies in an year” sounds too good… remember HR… its you who set the rules…so its only you who can change them…the industry is just a dummy dancing to your tunes…

This album is really only a bonus since it is a backlog of previous HR work…officially, the wait for his next music album should have been a much longer one! Thank you Kamal Hassan Sir for this one! Please accept my warm regards if u tuned in!

Every listener in South India is getting treated by the man himself…Himesh Reshammiya…they just don’t know how lucky they are…HR’s tamil fans would be over the moon…Taking up a challenge by composing in unfamiliar territory, dealing with lyrics, delivering target audience songs and even singing is in itself such a big achievement that every HR fan should be proud of. For that reason I don’t even feel like giving a review for such versatile work but lets do it:
    .
    1. Oh sanam oh sanam (remix) – This song is a ripper that will bamboozal the tamil listeners. HR strikes gold and hits the bulls eye with his first (and probably the last) vocal outing in tamil. This is the album’s best song. The tune is from HR’s top drawer. HR shows that why he is the undisputed king of Indian melody. Hats off to HR for pulling through the tamil pronunciations. A trademark HR stamp is evident in this song. Negligible feel of dil vich lagiya ve near end of stanzas. This song would be shortly doing rounds in tamil night clubs (if there are any).
    2. Oh sanam oh sanam – Good old HR is back. Only the orchestration could have been a bit tighter. The good old female background chorus is back, just simply love it.
    3. Mukhunda mukhunda – the next best song. Well, it doesn’t have that typical HR stamp and not the type of melodies one associates with HR, perhaps just a few glimpses. But this song is truly an extremely pure flowingly melodious gem in the uncharacteristic reshammiya way. Good use of female background chorus. I can categorize it in songs with Namastey London that had melodious yet unlike HR. Well, that makes it something new then. Underlying beats are somewhat like deewanapan deewangi – main aisa hi hoon. The part where Kamal hassan says “cough-govinda, cough-gopala and then clears the throat in the most funny way”, simply amazing and what comic sense and timing. I love such freaky stuff.
    4. Koi tumsa – A foot tapping western classic fuzion mix whereby the mukhda is trendy and the stanzas are classical raga based. Great orchestration and watch out for a deadly techno instrument playing in background towards end of each stanza. The beats reminded me of the beats used for ‘ding dong – Krishna cottage’ and the lines “duniya ke laayak ho, prem ke gaayak ho” are ripped off “why does it happen in love” from o makhna ve – dil maange more, but I don’t see anything wrong with that.
    5. Om namo narayan – it follows the banaras way and slowly grows on you upon repeat hears. Again, totally unlike HR melody and I am surprised to hear such tunes. It is decent tune composed with keeping the south trends in mind. Perhaps, shankar mahadevan is known to make such tunes. I think he also has made.
    6. Hey black ho ya white – I didn’t quite understand this song. Anyway, it is the last song perhaps tailor made for mallika sherawat to do her thing. Beats slightly resemble the beats of dil lagayeenge – SLBB. Time pass song.

Only oh sanam has trademark HR stamp, the rest is quite a mixture and not really what I anticipated. According to me, Oh sanam (all versions), especially sung by HR is the USP and should be definitely used as a promotional video (with HR also in it if he is available) and included in the movie. Other songs (except hey black ho ya white) have their own identity, are decent and effective. Since the songs (except O sanam) are uncharacteristic of HR yet effective, they will take time to grow on the listener. They should have good visuals. Definitely keep the listener engaged. Good detail is given orchestration unlike same/similar/repetitive beats, and the results are for everyone to be seen, it really makes a huge difference to song quality. It can easily be included in list of good HR albums and safely called one of the good works of HR. In terms of expectations, well it didn’t quite but only somewhat live up to them, but then I was expecting stuff like yeh hai jalwa (one of my favs) that doesn’t happen everyday. This album gave HR a chance to leave an impact in the south shores and display his unique music melodies. With that in mind, that’s where HR fell short. I am overall pleased with it and it didn’t disappoint an above average consistent decent album. In fact, I wouldn’t have minded straight rips from his previous top hindi melodies, but then HR does original stuff which is again a good thing. In a nutshell, with this album HR has shown a trailer of his unique melody and just added a fan base of many south Indians…It will leave them only begging/craving for more…it has also done a world of good for HR since his music will get maximum exposure since Dasa is the most hyped and anticipated film of the South…A brave, gutsy and daring effort by a man who doesn’t even comprehend South Indian languages…100 out of 100…and I am exited about the prospects

    that was long

An actor is recognised through his acting and a musician through his/her music.
As a musician i think himeshji has proved himself. We all wish him good luck for his acting carreer.

  9. shakthieeon 04 May 2008 at 1:24 pm

@ diehard HR fanatic, u are absolutely correct. U are absolutely expressing my ideas/feelings. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw your article in the post. It is really very sad that himeshji has given such a statement. But, inshahallah, one day his ideas may get change. He may start giving music/soulful music for other films in the near future. I am craving for that day to come. Also, I don’t want him to give up his acting. (he looks dashing and I don’t want to miss him) I know he may change his ideas if he happens to read these articles coz he gives importance to his each and every fan. So, don’t worry. Be +ve. Himeshji will never disappoint us. And I don’t want to get into ur argument regarding AAA…. Awarapan….aapne. but still ur idea related to making music for south films especially for tamil films is very nice. Since I am a tamil girl, I would relish himeshji’s songs in my language (though music has no language and fans like u enjoy his creations beyond language limits like me, I am quite sure!!)
Although I wished to watch himeshji as a hero in a full fledged role, I never hated to watch him doing cameos; even it was more interesting to see his appearance in others’ films.
Coming to dasavatharam, kamal hasan sir has introduced himesh as a “northern star” to the tamil audience’ who gathered for the music release function. And I missed himeshji as he missed the flight. Now our south people too started enjoying his songs. There was a time that when u go for shopping in the hi-fi music show rooms or even in the platforms (we call it as Sunday market in pondicherry) and u ask for hindi songs, u are sure of getting himeshji! Even if the CD wrapper reads “disco babes” himeshji will be on the cover and we are sure of getting his songs. Wherever u go u were sure of feeling his music, in our park we used to have dancing water fountain, both tamil and hindi songs, for hindi songs we had himeshji’s top numbers. I don’t know whether this will happen in the future or not but I’ll be his fan forever.
The next thing is himeshji’s old good-songs which I like the most. Like u, I always like the songs of “before aashique banaya aapne era” a bit more. Especially, the songs from yeh hai jalwa, dulhan hum le jaayenge……the soft female chorus in oodani ud ke naachun…… the music from rajasthani/gujarathi folk instrument from ho jaaye kuch meetha ho jaaye……
Time will come for reshammiyans like us to sing “kuch meetha ho jaaye”. Till that date keep patience my friend……..

@shakthiee…interesting feedback…yes i agree with you that neither do I want (now at this point) to miss HR’s acting because he has really worked hard and deserves it…no problems with acting at all…in fact i would like him to do as many films as he can coz with that comes a music album too…my ONLY problem with his acting was that it ate up most of HR’s high-profile legendary music career…provided after approximately 2-3 months a chartbuster album hits the stands (i.e. approx 6-7 albums in an year) along with the prospect of watching his movies is great…judging by your post, it seems you have a good sense of unique HR melody…

@meenakshi…very well said indeed…An actor is recognised through his acting and a musician through his/her music…so why mix up and link the two…why not have the best from both worlds of music and acting…which makes me wonder even more about his defensive decision…

Had things been within my control…i would have expressively taken a petetion entailing a list of all fans who do miss and are underpriviledged of his infectious tunes with a request to find a way to increase music…

…as they say…imagination is far away from reality…i guez its only a waiting game until HR realizes this fact and a hope for the good old times to return in future…

  11. die hard HR fanaticon 05 May 2008 at 12:58 pm

i was, i am and i forever will remain a hard-core addict of HR’s music…quitting his music is like quitting an addiction…anyone with a habitual addiction (e.g. of smoking, liquor etc) finds it extremely difficult to quit all at once…and when an addict is in no mood or anticipation to quit his addiction but faces a sudden out-of-the-blue indefinite shortage of supply, then you can imagine his position…this extreme decision “from surplus supply to limited supply” created a vacuum which urges a request to increase that supply to “optimal/reasonable”…well by this statement, one could interpret me to be HR’s music freak rather than a fanatic…but i guez that is the hypnotis HR’s music has over me…

  12. Vinnieon 07 May 2008 at 11:35 am

I loved all the songs…..but my favorite being Come Dance With Me (Himesh ji ka composition aur Vinit ka voice-Lethal combination):D

  13. sohailon 08 May 2008 at 1:13 pm

    TO>>>>>>>> diehard HR fanatic>>>>> i somehow agree with u………

    i want hr to do 3 films + 3 films+ 1 album……….

from the last 6 months we r not getting any HRstuff….

himesh i promse i will be ur fan alwaysssss…………………
