“Why should I hide Mallika?” - Himeshji

Though Himesh isn’t saying it, he has recorded a song with Sunidhi Chauhan to be picturized on Mallika and Himesh.

Why Mallika’s presence was kept under wraps? “She was signed on from the start. But we didn’t announce her name. I never intended to hide her presence in my film,” exclaims Himesh from Bangkok. “If all goes well Aap Kaa Surroor will make me the first singing star since Kishore Kumar. And why would I feel insecure about Mallika’s presence? The truth is she’s playing a negative role, a vamp. She plays a strong character. We wanted to introduce the film’s leading lady first. It was nothing but a marketing strategy to announce my leading lady Riaa’s name first. There was no intention to create any secrecy about Mallika’s presence.”

Himesh is clear that the film is essentially his vehicle. The rest of the cast is incidental. “Why should I feel insecure about anyone else in the cast? I play this rock star who gets trapped in a mystery. It’s a love story within a thriller format. I have a very performance-oriented role. I have to prove myself. I know people are bitching about me, ‘ Bada chala actor ban-ne’. Among singers only Kishore Kumar has been successful as an actor. I want to repeat Kishore-da’s success. And for that, I couldn’t do anything half-baked. I need everyone’s blessings.”

Himesh is very happy with the way his debut film has shaped up. “It’s turned out exactly the way we had hoped. We shot in completely-untried locations all over Germany. We shot seventy percent of the film in Germany, and the rest in Bangkok except for a small portion in Goa. Vijay Taneja has been a hand-on producer. And my director Prashant Chaddha has really guided me in front of the camera. We had worked together on my music videos. Now he’ll prove himself as a feature-film director.”

He pauses between shots to say, “Every actor praises his own film. I’m doing the same. But on June 29 we’ll get to see doodh ko doodh pani ka pani.”

There’s the fear of falling flat on his face. “You can’t predict destiny.”

Back home, Himesh’s music in Shakalaka Boom Boom and Red couldn’t salvage the films. “But the music worked, and I’m happy. In Namastye London, both my music and the film worked. Now I’ll divide my time between music and acting, regardless of how Aap Kaa Surroor fares at the box office. But my acting will always be connected with music.”

Himesh returns to India in the middle of May. “But until then I don’t have any time to play games about the film’s cast,” he chuckles.

    i jus want 2 tell d people tht..god is there fr everybody n always bless hardworkin people(like himesh)..himesh hs never said nythng bad bout nybody.i remembr..whn in “aap ki adalat”the anchor wanted an explanation frm himesh regardin his comments on R.D.Burman.thn HR jus told 1 line…tht..mere maa,baap ne mujhe hamesha badon ki respect karneka sikhaya he.agar koi mujhe aise bolega,to main marjana pasand karunga…n tears were in his eyes.
    tht impressd me a lot ;;)
    anyway dont worry guys..mallika is only doin a cameo of 10 min.fr which,she w’ll chrge 1.5 crore :D(now smile jem..i know u r a little upset wid mallika news)

    Great news, everybody LUVS HIMESHJI, and the ones that don’t will surely change their minds after they c how the moviee is!!!     jem.. i wanna ask you something… the heroine in the song tera mera milna and the one in assalaam valeikum,are they the same heroine? or.. different ones? coz i’ve heard Reaa and i’ve hgeard er.. Hannsika.

    @Talha: Yes Himeshji is judging SRGMP c2007… do look out for the adverts as no dates have been finalised for when the show is going to go on air…

    @swatee: do check the filmography as the next release of Himeshji’s should be Fool & Final and also Nanhe Jaisalmer…we shall be regularly updating the filmography as and when we hear more news ;) Jem

    Those thatv watched shakalalaboomboom would recall the scene when upen patel meets bobby for the first time when both sing the same tune turn by turn i.e. oh jaane jaana,main hoon deewana…something…la la la….piya gaye pardes, hope you recall! Now that’s the kinda melody im talking about that made me such a hard-core HR fan, I wish he would have made a whole song from that tune. All the song promos of aap ka suroor are looking great, sakira from fool n final is good also. But I really liked the song from nanhe…the good old ‘typical HR days’ that I was so dearly missing and craving for are back, atleast with this song if not the whole album, n the instrument just in the beginning, my fav n I think the most frequently used by HR before the aashiq banaya aapne era.
    In the current musical scene, I think that Pritam is really taking the fight in terms of ‘quantity, quality n consistency’ to HR. But HR is winning the race (I think so) coz he also sings the songs he composes, well if pritam were to sing as many as HR then it would get real tight. I say this coz other music directors do good work but they dont give so many albums in a year..examples would be SEL and A.R.Rahman. Now id like to spare a thought for the kid mithoon. I always thought ‘bache se ek superhit fluke gaana bangaya (tere bin), now what does he have to offer?’ but I must say that I realy underestimated him, but after hearing the sufi-rock fusion ballads from ‘The Train’ I must say that this kid got talent and more so coz he can sing alright n has done so for 2 numbers (quick daring move early in his career), I think they r a jackpot for him. But why am I mentioning al these music directors ova here, well its only just for a change and more so coz they r HR’s so called competitors and he n his fans should be aware of and watch out for them, and…in a different context but same meaning…if Australia has to win the world cup which they will (I study in Adelaide n India is already out, so “go Aussie go, u little bewdy”), then they should know what their rival Sri Lanka is upto…n finally aap ka suroor..is it 1 day away..cool

    @die hard HR fanatic: again i totally agree w/ya :D I haven’t seen SLBB but do u mean the song: “O o jaane jaana, dhoonde tujhe deewana sapno mein roz aaye aa zindagi mein aana sanam…”? that song is from pyar kiya to darna kya…& ya it does have a v.strong melody indeed ;;) Jem

    the actress ( hansika, i think ) is seen in that song and at the end of the song, another actress is shown, i think it’s malika sherawat…

    @ jem, hello…well actually i wasnt referring to that song from pyar kiya toh darna kya (which is ofcourse a brilliant song early in his career)…what im referring to is just a few lines of tune in SLBB that go smthng like “oh jaane jaana,main hoon deewana…something…kahaan bejhu sandesh….piya gaye pardes”….the scene sequence is as follows “its when bobby n upen meet 1st time in the recording studio and the boss says to bobby sthing like… “kuch suna dijiye..n bobby says..abhi aadha adhura hai”…n then bobby humms that line n his lyricist sings it after adding words n upen critisizes it..n then upen is asked to sing the same lines too”….actually these few lines r not in the music album but they were really melodious…u can just hear’em in the movie SLBB..
