Zayed Khan on matters of home, his romantic image and a flair for direction.
He might not be the most popular Khan, but he is gradually making it there. With over five films in various stages of production this year, Zayed Khan is looking at consolidating his position in the fiercely-competitive film world. We cornered the ‘Rocky’ star in a tête-à -tête.
Advisor Himesh!
“My wife is my strongest critic, but she’s a bigger SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) fan,” smiles Khan, who married Malaika Parekh last year. His father though doesn’t react much on his career. “Earlier dad used to advise me, but now he smiles and doesn’t say much.” Advice also comes from friend and composer Himesh Reshammiya. “I’m close to Himesh; he even advises me on which films to sign and which to avoid. And I listen to him.”
The angry man’s back
Move over Mr Bachchan, Khan is here! Not really a joke, but Khan, who has contributed to the script of his upcoming film ‘Rocky’, admits that the film will mark the return of the anti-establishment hero of the ’70s. “It’s sort of a resurrection of the angry young man. This guy does things which the system won’t allow,” says Khan of his character in ‘Rocky’. Will he write a complete script some day? “I definitely will,” he stresses. He also has a bent towards direction, he admits. “I wish I could remake ‘Abdullah’ (his father, Sanjay Khan’s film).”
Krrish me, if you can
Though he has a good mix of films, Khan says that he doesn’t believe in proving a point to anyone. “I know my forte is romance. But I want to do something beyond it, maybe a superhero film like ‘Krrish’. But I don’t want to give competition to Hrithik (Roshan, his brother-in-law). Jaane do yaar, apna bhai hai woh,” he laughs. On a more serious note, he explains, “It’s early for me to decide on an image. My directors are helping me understand my abilities. For me, giving 15 right takes with Mr Bachchan means acting.”
