Himesh is floored by the response he’s gotten for his concerts so far
Himesh Reshammiya is a busy man. The music director-turned-singer is busy entertaining an audience across the United States. Titled Aap Ka Suroor, his string of concerts is being touted as one of the biggest and the most expensive projects ever. Talking to us from Miami on his way to Houston, a breathless and excited Himesh Reshammiya says, “I don’t have words to express what I am going through. Performing in front of such a large audience has been a dream come true.”
How has the tour been so far?
It’s been an amazing experience. I have met so many fans in the last few days that I can’t believe I am in the United States. People have travelled across the country to come and see my performance.
How big are the crowds?
My first concert in Atlanta set an all time record for that particular stadium. We had a crowd of around 7,000 people who came in to see the concert. In New Jersey, we had around 8,000 fans. Miami, too, had a similar number.
What has been the most memorable moment for you on stage?
During my Atlanta concert, there were people in the audience who had come all dressed up and seemed quite uptight. Watching them let their hair down and get up on their seats and start dancing was amazing. I like interacting with my audience. I don’t like going on stage, singing my song and then leaving. During the Jhalak Dikhlaja number, I got some kids on stage, we danced together.
What kind of audience attended the concert so far?
It’s an amazing mix of the young and the old. In fact, I remember watching this really cute old couple dancing to my song. As we move towards New York and other bigger cities, I’m sure we will be getting bigger crowds.
Tell us something about your audience interaction…
I don’t read out any lines or use any script when it comes to talking to my audience. I tell them exactly what my heart wants to say. I believe that everyone has fallen in love at least once, which is why they can relate to my songs. There’s also an act where I sing unplugged, and let the audience connect with me. Iremember throwing my cap in the audience and people went mad.
What about the other singers? How have they been performing?
All of them have been fantastic. Alisha’s (Chinai) Kajra Re number sets the house on fire. Even Abhijeet (Sawant) and the other singers have got a tremendous response. I think the whole concert works because of everyone’s combined effort.

The show in Houston was a total disappointment. Himesh, as himself, is a super triple threat - singing, music directing, and trend setter. However, the folks he brought along on the tour, with the exception of Abhijeet Sawant, really brought down his passion for music. I am extrememly disappointed by Himani and Vineet as they could have performed better, instead looked like fools when they did not even sing in tune when performing with Himesh. Himesh looked disgusted with his orchestra/band, as they could not provide music he envisioned. Alisha was appalling - the woman could not sing and was dressed horribly. Udita just did her foul gyrations and went off stage. Come on folks, there are kids in the crowd. Himesh did his best but he was stuck on the same tunes! There was so much more that could have been presented. But you can feel the strong feelings and deep relationship that he has with music; one could feel it within themselves.
The crowd who sat behind us was so obscene that we could not enjoy the show. There’s a difference between creating exciting ‘hungama’ and being obscene when at concerts. We all have paid to enjoy the show, and we should respect others around us. People in India don’t even act this irate. They would have been thrown out of the theatre should they even begin this nonsense.
Bottom line - it was so very obvious there was no rehearsal.
Sorry to hear you were disappointed with the show, but sometimes there are some technical problems which can affect sound and can be beyond even Himeshji’s control. Jem
